What’s the best way to make pickled onions?
Pickled onions add the best flavor to everything, but especially to this burger bowl! Start by chopping up the red onion in half and then into some thin “C” slices. Set aside to make the brine. Take 6oz of water and set to a boil on the stove. Put in 1 tbsp salt with 1 tbsp white sugar and ½ tsp minced garlic into the mason jar with red onion. Pour in the boiled water and then fill the rest of the jar with white vinegar. Place lid on mason jar and give it a spin to let onions soak it up. Store in the fridge for the week!
What you need for Chipotle Dressing:
- Chipotle Peppers
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- Plain greek yogurt
- Avocado oil mayo
- Garlic clove
- Cumin, chili powder, sea salt
What greek yogurt do you use for the dressing?
I like to use the Fage Plain Greek Yogurt but any plain greek yogurt would work in this recipe!

What is a Hamburger Bowl?
A “burger bowl” is just a normal burger, but with the bun removed. You put all the lean ground beef burger toppings in a bowl, and eat them with a fork. This may seem like an unnecessary extra step, but it’s actually more efficient than eating a regular hamburger.
Burger bowls are, in fact, the solution to a problem that has long plagued mankind: how to eat a tasty hamburger as quickly as possible.
But most people don’t know about the existence of burger bowls, an oversight I’m here to correct.
What Else Can I Add to My Burger Bowl?
Who eats a plain burger bowl? You don’t need to. Here are some great ideas to make a beautiful and healthier bowl.
To make your own burger bowl, start by making a base with a bed of lettuce or kale. Then add your favorite proteins: you can use grilled chicken breast, black beans, crispy tempeh, seared tofu, crumbled bacon, or smashed avocado. Add veggies like tomatoes, onions, green leaf lettuce, dill pickles, red and yellow peppers; or pile it high with sweet corn, grilled pineapple, and green chiles. Then top it off with your choice of cheese sauce or guacamole.
